Famous festivals of EthiopiaTimkat (Epiphany)The most colorful event in the year falling on the 19th of January; at the eve of Epiphany Churches take their Tabots to a near by body of water and stays overnight with the priests and faithful congregation. The following day morning, Christ’sbaptism in the Jordan River by John the Baptist is commemorated. After the ceremony, the Tabots are returned back to its Church accompanied by much singing and dancing.Ethiopian New Year (Enkutatash)The celebration encompasses both the New Year and the feast of John the Baptist on the 11th of September which is at the end of Ethiopian rain season; on this day the people put on new clothes and visit friends and relatives. The Ethiopian new years also honors the seasonal transition from the heavy rainy season to the bright ones.Gena (Lidet, Christmas)Christmas is falling on the 7th of January; it is celebrated inside a church throughout the night at the eve of the feast day which begins at 6 AM and lasts until 9 AM. After the mass service, people go home and eat meat of chicken or lamb with Injera accompanied by traditional drinks.Fasika (Easter)Fasika is a festival that follows a fasting period of 55 days. During lent time Orthodox Christians do not eat meat and diary products for the whole 55 days. Followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church daily pray at the Church and do not eat until 3 PM, except Saturday and Sunday when prayers are conducted early in the morning.The followers of the religion spend Easter Eve at the Church praying until 3 am when it is announced that Christ has risen!On Easter eve people go to church and celebrate with candles which lit during a colorful Easter mass service starting at about 6 PM in the evening and ends at about 3 AM after mid-night when it is announced that Christ has risen! Then everyone goes home and eats the meat of chicken or lamb, accompanied with Injera and traditional drinks. |

The Simien Mountain ParkThe Simien is an area of highland country in the northern part of Ethiopia in the Administrative of North Gondar.In addition to spectacular scenery, the region contains a number of unusual botanical phenomena and some of the rarest animals in the world. The walia ibex has its citadel among the peaks of the Simyen;The Simien fox, also very rare, is found nowhere else but in these mountains and in the highlands of southern Ethiopia . |

Awash National Park756 square kilometers area Awash national park is situated at 225 kms south east of Addis Ababa on the highway leading to Asseb and Hararge. The Awash National Park is the oldest and relatively the most developed wildlife reserve in the country. The park is entirely established on the plain of rift valley. With the exception of 600m high mountains Fantalle, the park area is predominantly covered with acacia trees and Savannah grass land. The main tourist attractions of the park include: • The 400 plant species growing in the park, the 46 major species of mammals and 453 species of birds among which six species are endemic to the country. |

Bale Mountains National Park (BMNP)Bale Mountains National park is a magnificent high altitude plateau with numerous dramatic volcanic plugs, seasonal tiny alpine lakes and cascading mountain streams. Located at about 400 km from Addis Ababa, it is stretched over an area of 2,400 sq kms, which has altitude ranges from 1500m-4377 above sea level. Being the largest Afro Alphine habitat park in Africa, Bale mountain national park offers the following major features of attraction. It gives chances of viewing about 46 mammal and 200 bird species and vegetation of unspoiled wonderland including various tree species and precious endemic mammals, namely Red Fox, Mountain Nyala, and Menelik's Bushback |

Nechisar National ParkNechisar National Park ranks in the experience of many visitors as one of the most beautiful places anywhere in the tropical savannahs. It is a small park of 514 square kilometers, located on an outstandingly scenic part of the Rift Valley floor between two lakes. The park is bounded to the east by the Amaro hills that rise to about 2000m. To the north lie the perennially red waters of Lake Abaya, which at 1,070 km is the second largest lake in Ethiopia ( the largest being Lake Tana). To the south is Lake Chamo, a small- clear watered lake of 350 square kilometers. To the east is the town of Arba Minch, headquarters of the North Omo Zone. Enclosed by the lakes and the Amaro hills are the central plains that, seen from a distance, appear white giving rise to the name nechsar (white grass) |

Mago National ParkMago National Park occupies the northern end of the small branch of the main Rift Valley called the Omo Trough, a day’s drive south west of Arba Minch. The park encloses some 2,162 square kilometer of gently undulating valley floor at about 450 m above sea level bounded on the east, west and north sides by precipitous escarpments that create the spectacular landscapes for visitors who see from almost every point in the park. To the south of the park the plain falls gradually. Rising over 2,000 m above the valley floor at the northern end is Mt Mago, 2,528 masl. The Mago River draining the northern highlands is joined at the top end of the park by the southern end. Near the center of the park, the Mago is joined by the Neri River that rises in the hills around Jinka. Jinka is the seat of the Soruth Omo Zone administration situated near the north – east border of the park |

Omo National ParkThe park is one of the remotest corners of Ethiopia, covering, With Mago, part of the northern end of the mini rift valley known as the Omo Trough. It encloses some 4,068 square kilometers on the west bank of the Omo River with an elevation on the valley floor of 440m. The Maji escarpment is on the western border and there is a range of volcanic hills – the Dirga Hills – running down the center of the park some 500m above the valley floor. West of the Dirga, the valley floor is traversed by the seasonal Kibish River that marks the park’s western boundary. The kibish continues in a south- easterly direction to form the border between southern Ethiopia and the Sudan. The southern edge of the park is marked by the dry Neri River running eastwards from the Dirga to the Omo. East of the Dirga Hills are the famous Sai and llibai planis a board expanse of completely open short-grass plains that are the park’s most outstanding feature. In the middle of the Illibal plain is an attractive hot spring. |

Abijatta-Shalla Lakes National parksSituated in the Great Rift Valley, it is 200 kilometers south of Addis Ababa . Lake Langano which is best known for its: beaches, camping, sailing, skiing and swimming facilities. It can be abase for easy trip to visit Abijatta- Shalla lakes National parks. The park has on area of 887 square kilometers. Among these 482 of the body of the park ranges from 1540 to 2075 meters. The surrounding area is mainly acacia wood land; some of the part is degraded by man. Lake Abijata is a shallow lake only 14 meters deep. Lake Shalla is the deepest lake among the rift valley lakes having 260 meters deep. |

Danakil DepressionDallol is the lowest point of the Danakil Depression (116 meters below sea level) in Ethiopia; the most important features of this region are resulted from faulting and cracking.
