Rwanda & Burundi Safari 12 Days, 11 nights

The safari starts in Kigali and ends in Bujumbura

It gives clients an opportunity to discover the better of the 2 countries with a cultural and historical visit, local people, wildlife, beach relaxation, beautiful lakes and landscapes.

Day 1: Arrival  -  Kigali City Tour

Arrival and transfer to your hotel for check in. Thereafter, city tour and visit the city centre, Nyamirambo markets and the Kimironko fruits market where you have a chance to meet the locals and choose your fruit basket. The Richard Kandts museum of natural history Belgium memorial soldiers who were killed in genocide of 1994. Lunch at the poolside of the Hotel.

Afternoon, visit of Gisozi Genocide Memorial, Remera stadium soccer and heroes' cemetery, a state house of President Habyarimana Juvenal died in plane crash 1994. Dinner and Overnight at Mille Colline hotel

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National park

Motor Boat excursion trip on Lake Ihema the biggest lake in the park to see more elephant, Hippos and big crocodile. Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.

Day 3: After breakfast drive to Rubavu the south province via Ruhengeri / Kinigi

Lunch at Muhabura Hotel visit IBY’IWACU village center, this center has more about the culture histories of Rwanda you can see the life of the people of Rwanda, lunch at Muhabura after lunch proceed to Rubavu check in at Kivu Serena Hotel Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 4: Lake Kivu

Optional activities on lake Kivu such as boat ride on the lake, water sports etc paid as extras or just relax at the boat at no extra cost.,Visit of the local fishermen and villages nearby. Dinner and overnight at Kivu Serena Hotel

Day 5: After breakfast drive to Butare the south province via Nyanza

Visit ancient royal palace continue to Butare visit the National Museum, the best of the country and probably in Africa, with its many ethnographic exhibits, visit of Rwanda National University and visit of the market to meet the local people. Lunch at Ibis Hotel. Drive back to Bujumbura for dinner and Overnight at Mille Colline hotel 

Day 6: Depart for Burundi

After breakfast drive to Burundi-Kirundo a region of extensive depressions dotted with many lakes and abounding in bird life.It is an area of great scenic beauty where the visitor may discover, by canoe, such lakes as Cohoha, the birds Lake,renowed for its ornithological reserve; and other lakes like Kacamirinda and Kanzigiri, overnight in Kirundo Top hills Residence.

Day 7: Teza Tea factory

After breakfast,tourists can visit again the birds lake .Drive to Ngozi, along the way a great scenic of coffee plantations through Ngozi and Kayanza. Visit of the tea factory of Teza. Tea and coffee are the main export products of Burundi; we will have a time to visit the tea plantations and the factory, people working in lands. Drive to Bujumbura for overnight at Club du Lac Tanganyika.

Day 8: Bujumbura city tour

Morning after breakfast tour of Bujumbura, we visit Rusizi national park where a boat ride in Rusizi river will let you explore closer the hippo, numerous birds and the joining point between Rusizi River and Lake Tanganyika; Visit of some local people of Bujumbura to learn about daily work,life; visit of Belvedere Top Hill offering a nice view of Bujumbura city, Independance hero mounument.Lunch at the Hotel or in Cozy restaurant of the City.

Afternoon, Full relaxation at the beach of the Hotel using its facilities,sauna,swimming pool,or massage(to be charged), Dinner and overnight at Club du Lac Tanganyika Hotel on Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 9: Mwaro waterfalls - Source of Nile - Karera waterfalls

After breakfast, we take the direction to Mwaro Province: Visit of Agasumo ka Mwaro”Mwaro Waterfalls” a place where Burundians were worshipping their God”Kiranga” before Christianity.

We continue our trip to Source of Nile, and then Karera waterfalls .On our route, magnificent tea plantations and landscapes will make you carry your camera ready for pictures. 

After karera waterfalls, drive to Gitega, the second town and colonial capital of Burundi. Visit of Gitega National Museum with its collection of artefacts, Gitega city administrative offices, Catholic location of Mushasha and its different schools, Overnight at Orange or Helena Hotel.

Day 10: Community Tour - Drum sanctuary - King Palace

After breakfast visit of the local people Batwa” pygmies” and learn about their way of life. Most of batwa community is living of potery, since Hunting is almost inexistent nowadays in Burundi.

After visit of the drum sanctuary of Gishora. Gishora is one of the famous drum sites of Burundi. Gishora is perched on the top of a hill at 7km from the urban centre of Gitega the site of Gishora also houses two ritual drums that were never beaten:

Ruciteme (the one for whom we clear the forest) and Murimirwa (the one for whom we cultivate). The two names are intimately linked to the farming vocation and refer clearly to the fertility, characteristic of the king. We have also ordinary drums which the Batimbo could beat on special occasions of the country.

Visit the drum sanctuary of Gishora to relive the cultural tradition of Burundi which is becoming scarcer. The site recreates an architectural complex of Royal palace, rarely found elsewhere in the country. Get there a lot of information will be provided by Mr Antime who has travelled a lot of countries across the world exhibiting the image of Burundi with his drum. 

Drive towards Bujumbura, relax at the beach using sports facilities as well as swimming pool,gym, sauna,tennis court, and overnight at Club du lac Tanganyika

Day 11: Blue bay and beach relaxation-Livingstone monument

Morning visit of Livingstone & Stanley Monument a huge rock in the Suburbs of Bujumbura commemorating the meeting between explorers Stanley and Livingstone,then drive to Rumonge ,relax at the beach of Tanganyika Blue Bay Resort. This is a great place to breathe the air of the countr,visit of some local fishermen at Rumonge Port. Drive back to Bujumbura for overnight at Club du lac Tanganyika.

Day 12: Check out and airport transfer

End of Tour
