Day 1 – NAIROBIMet upon arrival and transfer to a hotel of your choice which includes Hilton, InterContinental,Fairmont The Norfolk, The Sarova Stanley and Nairobi Safari Club, Nairobi Serena, Safari Park or Panari Hotel. After breakfast we will give you a full safari briefing, a safari hat and your itinerary. Balance of the day may be spent touring in the city and its surroundings you will see Uhuru Park, Kenya’s Parliament House, the Kenyatta Conference Centre, City Square and some of Nairobi’s nicest suburbs. You visit the Karen Blixen Museum, the farmhouse where the author of out of Africa. Later visit the Langata Giraffe Centre to learn about these extraordinary animals. You have an opportunity to hand feed giraffes from a tall wooden platform. Tonight we dine at the famous Carnivore Restaurant. Day 2 – SAMBURUDriving north you pass Mount Kenya, Africa’s second highest mountain at 17,000 feet (5,199metres).This is also the traditional homeland of the Kikuyu people, the largest of Kenya’s recognized tribes. The Kikuyu believe that their god, Ngai, lives on Mount Kenya and so they build their homes with the doors facing towards the mountain, to welcome their god in. You cross the Equator again into the northern hemisphere on your way to Samburu Game Reserve in a semidesert area of Kenya. Samburu is located on the Ewaso Nyiro River. This afternoon you take a game drive in the park. Samburu Game Lodge or similar. Full Board http://www.wildernesslodges.co.ke/wildernessLodges.html Day 3 – SAMBURUEarly morning and afternoon game-viewing drive in Samburu Game Reserve, Ololokwe TableMountain forms a dramatic backdrop to our game viewing today. Samburu is also home to the third of Kenya’s giraffe species – the Reticulated Giraffe. This is also your best chance to see the blue-legged Somali Ostrich, the long-necked Gerenuk gazelle and the straight-horned Beisa Oryx antelope. Samburu Game Lodge or similar. Full Board Day 4 –ABERDARESAfter a hearty breakfast depart for Outspan to arrive in time for lunch. After lunch you leave yourmain luggage at the base hotel and continue with just your overnight bags to one of the famous “tree hotels “deep in the Aberdares Forest. A special feature of the lodge where you stay is the floodlit watering hole where you can watch from the lodge itself throughout the night as the animals come down to drink. In the morning you hope to have spectacular views towards jagged outline of Mount Kenya.(Note: Children under 5yrs are not admitted and only small overnightbags are permitted to be carried to the tree hotels).Overnight at the Ark, Treetops or similar. Full Board http://www.aberdaresafarihotels.com Day 5 –LAKE NAKURUBreakfast and return to the Outspan or similar to rejoin your driver/guide and vehicle. Depart forLake Nakuru National Park. Famous for its flocks of over one million Flamingoes. As well as seeing many large game animals such as Zebras, elephants and gazelles, this is one of your best chances of seeing rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park was the first place in Kenya selected as a rhino reserve. Here is one of the few places where you can see Rothschild’s giraffes. Overnight at the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. Full Board http://www.sarovahotels.com Day 6 –MASAI MARAAfter breakfast drive down into the Great Rift Valley. Crossing the valley you make way to Kenya’s premier wildlife park-the Masai Mara. This is the northern section of the Serengeti Plain, which is the home to the greatest concentration of game animals in the world. You continue to explore this afternoon game drive. This is one of the most spectacular sights in the world. Today you also encounter and learn about the Masai, a proud tribal people struggling to preserve their traditions in the face of modernization. At sunset you will visit a section of the Mara River where you hope to see many hippos. Keekorok Lodge or similar. Full Board Day 7 – MASAI MARAMasai Mara the vast, open grasslands of the Serengeti-Mara are home to over 3 million large mammals. These includes over 1.4 million wildebeest which migrate in an enormous, straggling herd each year between the southern part of the Serengeti to the northern part and back again. On your morning and afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara you have a very good chance of seeing all the major plains animals including lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino, hyena, cheetah, jackal, warthog and many species of antelope. (Optional excursions available: hot air balloon or visit a Masai tribal village) Keekorok Lodge or similar. Full Board Day 8 –ONWARD FLIGHTAfter breakfast proceed to Nairobi. Have lunch then later we transfer you to the airport and check you in for your onward flight. In the event of a late evening flight, an optional day room can be reserved for you to relax and freshen up before you transfer to the airport. |
